Race 4 and 5 from the cockpit of the mini. I started the meeting from P23 after missing qualifying, and slowly made my way to P10 by the end of the weekend. The car ran perfectly thanks to Jason Armstrong's engine build (Dave Armstrong Motors). I struggled getting 3rd gear which cost me places at times but all great experience for this newbie racer. Lots to learn still!

Helmets and Mouthpiece Retaining Straps
Переглядів 4,3 тис.8 місяців тому
Nothing stirs up cave divers like discussing helmets! For some, there are the devil's work and for others, they wouldn't leave home without one. I'm a helmet guy and I present the case for and against, and show some different styles which suit cave diving, dry caving or both. Secondly, the important topic of Mouthpiece Retaining Straps ('gag' straps) and why if you dive rebreathers they might j...
Caving and Cave Diving Helmet Lights Comparison
Переглядів 3,3 тис.8 місяців тому
If you go caving and diving all in the same outing, the choice of helmet lights becomes a little more limited. In this video, I talk about my three favourite lights and come up with my preference, including the reasons why. Lights tested are the Scurion Dive, the Phaethon and the Argolamp. Declaration: I have paid for all these lights myself but have also received sponsorship support from Scuri...

Unfortunately I was the only Historic car racing today, so I had the Saloon cars in front and the HQ's behind...I spend a lot of time alone! But wet conditions for qualifying saw me get a front row start at least.
Understanding Rebreathers - CMF Valves
Переглядів 13 тис.Рік тому
Are you confused about how the leaky oxygen valves in manual CCRs work? I do my best to explain them in this video and do a couple of practical demonstrations to illustrate the effect of variables like 1st stage intermediate pressure. It's not a straightforward topic, and I hope I don't add to the confusion!
Understanding Rebreathers - Part 1

Why is it so complicated for humans to remain underwater? First person to invent human gills is going to be a billionaire! 😂
The Halcyon LED+fresnel lens combinations are really lovely. One more generation's worth of battery miniaturization and heat management, and I think we might have the perfect spotlight-even in a pure handheld config. The lockable/full external switch is also quite handy...
Watched this video and consequently went down an absolute rabbit hole between the cave itself, and the MIT article about your use of hydrogen in your last dive. Incredibly fascinating, you have me at the edge of my seat sir and I have never even been cave diving. Cannot wait to see what you accomplish in that cave in the years to come. Best of luck.
Firstly from information I have read online this cave is not open to any old certified cave diver right? I can imagine yourself and Agnes had gotten special permission due to your expertise? Or am I completely wrong and the cave was reopened? Secondly this footage is really incredible. I would say even rare which makes me believe its still not open to regular cave divers. Would really love to use some of this footage to show what the inside looks like for a story I am working on, no problem if not though. Stay safe and keep up the awesome dives( although based on your last upload you are doing a lot more than just diving haha)
Cool 😎
Could you clip the mouth piece strap around the back of your head with a quick release style clip (pull hard and it unclips)?
What was the cost of such an expedition? Where the hell you take all theese money from? Or was it sponsored in any way? Just curious.
All self funded. Because we are camping we keep the costs as low as possible.

Hello, thank you for your video, not much people talk about all theses lamps. I want to buy a new lamp for dry caving, and the Phaethon looks very good. In fact, Argolamp with 21700 has 41% more capacity, but i think for the same mode, it is less than 41% in terms of duration, so less efficient maybe... And Scurion don't use universal battery, big problem in my opinion. I wish you greats explorations !
great watch, that cave is beautiful!
Question:what kind of wrist watches do divers use(not dive computers) You and the others Do you guys ever wear g shocks?
I love you guy! 😅 You’re just doing the necessary.
So it arises that there is an absolute limit of diving with lungs and gases which is around 300m? What about hydrogen then?
First human being who took the effort to explain in a way, so I understand all critical details 👌
This is amazing video for who are curious about the Trimix concept. Thank you for sharing
I am not sure I know anyone that races cars and is also an avid scuba diver. It is an interesting combination. I think I would have to go for a dive just to relax after a race like that.
Very good..Dr.Harris enjoy and take care.🎉🎉🎉
In a past life I drove minis in club events and this brings back very fond memories. I'm intrigued by what the phone on the dash is displaying? Is it lap/delta times?
Yes it's an app called Race Chrono. Provides quite a lot of data to lookl at afterwards as well.
@@DrHarryH Very cool, back in my days all our data was from the tacho :) I really would love to have another Cooper S.
Very cool I like the car🙂
Absolutely the best cave diving video on youtube. This cave captures my imagination like no other cave.
I've got a bump helmet from airsoft that's the same style as the Scubapro. It has mount points with its dual strap system that should be perfectly aligned for the mouthpiece strap. Why not connect the mouthpiece strap to the helmet straps?
I just picked up an MRS. I'll give this a shot.
This video is amazing. It is exactly the kind of thing I wanted to understand since I heard you were diving on dual rebreathers
Looking int CCR as well. Most likely next year either KISS OR HOLLIS PRISM 2
Thanks for the review! Did you ever try the meandre technologie helmet light?
I dive and use the APD unit w/gag strap. The way it is designed it wraps around the back of your neck instead of your head, it also has a clip on/off. No issues diving with a helmet either, good luck
I agree they look great. They were just about to be released I think, when I made this video.
Thanks for being awesome 👍🏻 really great videos
Can anyone explain why heating batteries are dropped around 10:25 ? Are they not rated to the depth to come??? Or swapped for fresh batteries and retrieved later?
Not rated and also don't want the entanglement risk at depth. We now use the Seacraft scooters to plug into on the way home so these battery pack are no longer required.
Dive Talk sent me here after enjoying the incredible stories you told over there. But now this video is amazing! Especially enjoyed the music there at the end run. 16 hrs … can’t even imagine what you’d do there. Any reading material or videos on offer there inside those habitats lol?
Incredible Harry. Interested to know if use analog spg, transmitters, or both, on your oxygen and dil?
All analog.
This is fascinating, and presented in such an accessible way that it feels far more retainable. Did you perchance create the video(s) discussing the gas density issues and distinctions been nitrogen and helium decompression?
Not yet! Need more hours in the day 🙂
Great explanation on the differences and specs to look for. Habe you had any experience with GRALmarine lights so far?
I haven't used GRALmarine but I had a look at their website. Like a lot of gear made in Poland for diving, it looks pretty solid. I have generally moved away from primary and video lights with a cable to a separate battery pack, but many divers still prefer them.
Hey, love all of your videos, and thank you for sharing with all of us. Very incredible stuff. Hopefully we get a video about your awesome Hydrogen dive? Can’t even wrap my tiny brain around that incredible feat. Thank you for sharing your world with us.
Thank you for this video
Room service wait a menu that's gas
Any plans to go back to the Pearse any time soon? I think about this dive all the time and I'm not even a diver, I just find it so fascinating. And of course we're all looking forward to another habi-chat.
I think I am done with the Pearse...on to new projects!
As a person who has done some diving requiring deco and having watched some of your vids, One question if I may. When in a habitat for an extended time, CO2 can be scrubbed with sorb which Craig demonstrates in one vid, but does the nitrogen being exhaled become a problem after an extended time. You guys rock. ( I have had the privilege of meeting Craig on 2 occasions)
are you guys still alive and not drowned yet?
I just bought my first ccr, a Meg Tiburon, and am super excited to start learning and diving it. I'm happy that you put together these great videos considering your medical expertise. I've been diving since I was 16, now 42, and have become much more acutely aware of subtle cues of narcosis around 30m. I've now more interested in trimix to dive safer and not push it. Also, congrats on your recent hydrogen dive!
What's that mule-o-matic thing for? Haha
Carbon dioxide elimiination
Hi Richard, I love the information you put out on the problems of deep diving. Do you think it would be possible to put out more information on gas density and how decompression is affected with helium? I feel like this topic is not covered by many and is something most people will not even of have known existed. Thank you, you videos are truly inspirational.
Me and my wife are watching this video wondering, if the habitat some how got a punture in it if it would implode👀
It wouldn't implode, it would just leak and we'd have to refill it which is easy. If it suddenly broke loose or split right open, it would indeed be a very bad day :-(
@@DrHarryH thank you, i honestly didnt know
what are you breathing on deko inside the habitat?
In the 16m and 7m habitat, we breath the habitat atmosphere itself. We have a fan forced CO2 scrubber in there, and bleed oxygen intermittently into the 'room' to maintain a PO2 of about 1.3. We have cells and a dive computer in there to monitor this. The PO2 changes very slowly due to the volume of gas in there, so it works very well.
Are there any eccrs with a manual system installed as a backup? In cas ethe electronic fails.
Actually it it more common to see mCCRs with a "parachute" system or failsafe, with electronics kicking in if the PO2 falls too low, commonly around 0.4. The rEVO is/was commonly run tis way for example.
rEvo do a hybrid.
What do you do if you have to take a shit?
Hold on
Just incase you don’t know the pressure at 245 meters depth underwater, lets just round it off to 250 meters, well 250 meters under water is 25 Bar which in PSI is 363 Pound Per Square Inch of water pressure pressing in on you at those depths. That a hell of a lot of pressure. The average bike type is 30 + PSI.
Actually it's 26 bar...you have to add the atmospheric pressure. Pascal's principle is your friend so no need to worry 🙂
Awesome to watch and vicariously go thru too …Thankyou so much ! Came from Dive Talk when you were on ..late to it but loved listening to you talk. Much respect 🫡🙏
Amazing!

Richard Harris, my school has made one of the mandatory books about the Thai cave rescue. After I learned about everything you and your fellow divers accomplished I was amazed, I had never been as interested and inspired by anything my whole life. Listening to who you are and your role in the rescue through various interviews and videos i have learned so much more than just how the rescue went. I grew up scared to ever take any risks out of fear and I never viewed myself as anyone who can do anything bravely, but you have shown that bravery and risk are so needed in this world. You have risked everything for anyone who needed it and I’m not just talking about the Thai cave rescue I’m talking about how you have said you practiced to help anybody stuck in a cave not just those you know. Writing this my grammar has probably been off and it may seem random but who you are has had a massive impact on who I hope to be.
Thanks so much for your message!
@@DrHarryHJust bought your book
Out of curiosity: when would and wouldn’t you do a rebreather dive?
I think rebreathers really come into their own for very deep or long dives, but there are many reasons to use them and one doesn't really have to justify their use if you like diving them. It is important to maintain your currency on rebreathers so that you are prepared for bigger dives, so a lot of diving is done on shallower or more straightforward dives just to practice. Of course their are other specific advantages of CCR - great for underwater photography, good for combat divers who don't want to be detected, good for cave or wreck penetration to avoid silting from bubbles and to give you more "psychological headroom" if you stuck stuck or lost. I tend to avoid rebreathers for high work dives especially in shallow water where the risks of hypoxia and elevated CO2 may be higher. Hope that helps!
